COURAGE. It's the antidote to FEAR.
I believe it's more powerful and more reliable than confidence.
Confidence is an EMOTION. Courage is an ACTION.
I have a private client who plays basketball. They are afraid to take a 3 point shot in a game.
I asked why: "Because I don't feel confident."
My response: "It's possible to lack confidence AND take a 3 point shot. You can choose to do something courageous even when your confidence is low."
And it begs the question: How much courage does an athlete need?
1 degree. And I'm not talking about college or university.
Author Sam Parker said this: "At 211°F water is hot. At 212°F, it boils. And with boiling water, comes steam. And with steam, you can power a train. The one extra degree, that one small step, makes all the difference."
So I asked my basketball client if they could find 1 degree of courage and take a 3 point shot in their next game.
The next day I received this text: "I took 2 three point shots. 1 in the first half and 1 in the second."
1 DEGREE OF COURAGE MAKES ALL THE DIFFERENCE.
